His name is Brian Sonneman He was born in Tacoma, WA Instrument of choice is his Voice He has played guitar since he was eleven years old. He is a writer. He has written a book of poetry along with his song
writing.
His poetry has been published numerous times and his poems can be found in some
fine books including the 1998 best seller
from the New York Press 'Reaching the Summit.' How
it all started, He was eight years old when he and his older brother
climbed over the fence
at U.P.S. (a local college) and watched Van Halen playing. Between David Lee Roth's on stage
antics
and Eddie Van Halen's blistering guitar sounds, it was to say the least a defining
moment for young Sonneman. In high
school, he met the multi-talented Peter Johnston. Together
they have been in many different projects. His first 'real'
band was a group of close-knit
friends getting together to pay tribute to a dear fallen friend who in the midst of her
private hell took her own life. After her death, his reason for playing changed or perhaps it
was born. The next phase
while in high school he sang in the sixty members a cappella choir
and after only one audition, the jazz choir as well.
He also was chosen out of all the male
choir members to be in the state honor choir. The singers were hand picked from
the best of
all the AA and AAA schools in Washington. Three singers per award winning choir, two females
and one male.
The saga continues after high school he sang for many different rock bands
(none worth naming). In '91 he formed the band
'Sonneman' they played on over 150 stages
together. They were one of 50 bands chosen out of 5,000 to perform at N.A.M.A.
In 2000 he met
up with bassist / guitarist Sean Lacefield. They were both performing in
separate groups that night. Brian introduced
himself while waiting to go on stage. They hit
it off right from the start. Sonneman stayed long after his band Thrown
Electric was done
playing to watch Lacefield's band F-Line. Within a few months of that he and Sean Lacefield
began
writing and recording songs together. Lacefield had just been laying guitar tracks for
80’s famed metal band “Metal Church.” The two
would become known as “Sonneman/Lacefield”
known is an understatement the duo scored a top 10 hit on mp3.com
and logged in over 113.000
plays world wide. They caught attention of legendary producer “David Longoria”
who wanted
to record to the group in his studio at Del Oro music in Studio city CA. Longoria has
worked with the best
in the biz! Everyone from Aretha Franklin, Sting, Annie Lennox, Marvin
Gaye, George Michael to jazz greats Dizzy Gillespie,
Count Basie, Buddy Rich and Oscar
Peterson. The duo signed a two song publishing deal with Del Oro records and the music
is
being shopped in the UK to date. Sonneman/Lacefield
wrote and recorded over 60 songs before
deciding to pull the plug on the song-writing team. Sonneman went back to Seattle and began
writing and recording
with his old band mates. Sonneman and Lacefield have found greater success working apart. Sonneman has a strong internet fan
base and can be heard all over net radio stations as well as land based radio in Europe.
Brian

Here is some of what the critics
have had to say about this artist.
Susan Ramson of the online reveiwing company
www.GodsOfMusic.com
"Brian
Sonneman is a fantastic communicator of words. The voice! Lets talk about the singing
for a moment. This singer is in
unfaltering control of his throat. The vocals on this track
go from soft and heartrending to powerful and enraged and
back again without the slightest
slip of intensity. The voice rivals the best in the business. This is the breed of vocalist
wannabes copy. I can not compare him to anyone so I won't bother trying. He makes this song
a great song, by lending
his passion and power and melodic proficiency. One must also note
the ability to blend his backup parts with his own voice.
The harmony parts were brilliant.
This is the first song I have reviewed that brought me to tears. With the drums of War
in
the air yet again, this is a must hear".
TAKEN FROM AN INTERVIEW WITH SUSAN RAMSON: "The musicianship
and prevailing love for the craft rings clearly in their songs. Now we will learn of the struggle to success the triumph
over
self-doubt and the accomplishments of two friends. Brian I thank you for your time. I
am fan of your music wherever you
decide to take it. I respect your views and your ability
to articulate them.
Joe Westman of GOM.
"Brian
Sonneman is back with a vengeance, this time with partner Sean Lacefield. The
calibration on "Waiting To Fall" is nothing
short of awesome.
This tune is comprised of masterful guitar playing and technique and prodigious vocals. As
in the
songs before, Brian sings his heart out for the world to hear. Blistering notes that
could scrape the paint off the walls.
His fantastic range is shown through out this powerful
piece".
Joe Westman Reviewing
[Now and Again]
"Brian Sonneman has done it again! Lightening can strike the same place twice!! Now and
Again is a
stroke of genius! love the metaphoric tie in.'s Sonneman's using. Each and every
melody line is delivered with surgeon
like precision. This is a phenomenal songwriter with a
voice that seems to know no limitations. There is a ten-second
vocal hold that is very
impressive near the end of the tune. There is a line that says "My tears hit the ground
without
making a sound I can't draw attention to this heartache I can't let them know I'm
hurting, lost without you". Having read
Brian's bio at his mp3 site and also getting the
chance to interview him. I know whom he is speaking of in this song.
A line taken from his
bio "A dear fallen friend who in the midst of her private hell took her own life. After her
death
his reason for playing changed or perhaps it was born". Brian told me he had lost his
first love to suicide. Dipping back
into some painful memories he has found another great
song. I found myself being reminded of the Billy Joel song "piano
man" that line towards the
end of the song that goes, "and they sit at the bar and put bread in my jar and say man what
are you doing here"? This is the stuff legends are made of! I can see this guy in a tour
buss somewhere. Not on mp3.com
with less than a thousand plays. Still better than 300, I
really hope Sonneman finds a way to share his music with the
world, anything less than
success would be a travesty. After my interview with him I know how long this guy has been
at
it. Well, this isn't a gold record, but you have reached the highest score given on GOM.
This isn't handed out often Congratulations!
best of luck Brian".
Joe Westman Reviewing [All
Around Me]
"Sonneman has a strong ability to write interesting material that's not copycat but
springboards
off a solid foundation laid down by the old masters of progressive rock. Yeah,
I also heard signature Beatles hooks everywhere.
Listen for the Asia
and 90's era Yes here
and there. I simply have nothing at all negative to say about "All Around Me". Everything
about
it - the composition, the instrumentation, the concept, the lyrics - is as close to
perfection as I've heard on come to
GOM".
Guts and Glory
Interviewer: Joe Westman
"An arist that is Tuneful, rocking and
hard enough to appeal to a wide range of listeners.
Brian Sonneman is up and coming! Brian Sonneman is an artist to watch
for. I have become a
fan. His powerful voice and soul searching lyrics truly set him aside with the Rock Gods of
yesterday
and today. Check it out for yourself!
INS;
Sonneman, a signed Washington based artist has released an album entitled 'Capricorn'. A definitive
mover and shaker in the music world, Sonneman possesses a voice that thunders under your feet and rips its
melodic tenticles of power through every bodily vein.
Akin to the likes of power house voices and bands of
the past such as Journey, Peter Gabriel, its likely that even Freddie Mercury would have got a run for his money standing
beside sonneman's vocal power gate.
